For Parents
A Typical Study
The lab's research assistants visit libraries, community centres, and schools to conduct engaging studies with children aged 3 to 14.
1
Before the Study
Interested parents will be briefed about the study and must sign a consent form before the child can participate.
2
During the Study
Children will be asked to complete 1-3 short activities on a computer. The activities may involve comparing images, watching videos, or hearing people present different opinions from each other.
3
After the Study
Children get a prize for participating! This is usually a sticker of small toy.
All information collected is kept confidential.
Example of our Studies
How do children reason about numbers?
If you aren't allowed to count, can you still notice differences in quantities?
In our studies about numbers, we often ask children to look at two groups of dots and compare which has more dots in it. We can change the ratio between the dots to make it harder or easier, which allows us to figure out exactly how well kids at different ages can reason about numbers!
